A weathered wooden table holds an overflowing partitioned plate of golden turmeric-spiced coconut rice and beans alongside dark, glossy stewed Caribbean chicken, with a small cup of vibrant passionfruit sauce catching the humid afternoon light filtering through an open wall overlooking the soft-focus jungle beyond.

La NENA

The plate you came for

Coconut rice and beans, slow-stewed chicken in turmeric gold, and a passionfruit sauce that cuts through everything — served on plates so full they barely fit the table, no walls between you and the jungle afternoon.

The story

La NENA

A family kitchen that became the kitchen for everyone passing through Cocles. Three generations of Caribbean seasoning, one open-air dining room, and the belief that no plate should ever leave looking anything less than overflowing.

Before you visit

Just show up. We're casual, open-air, and first-come first-served. If you're coming with a group of six or more, send us a WhatsApp so we can have a table ready.

The Caribbean casado with rice and beans cooked in coconut milk, stewed chicken, and the passionfruit sauce on the side. That's the plate people come back to Costa Rica for.

Yes. Our rice and beans, patacones, and Caribbean veggie casado are all naturally plant-based. Just let us know when you order and we'll take care of you.

We're right on the main road between Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo, in Cocles. About a 5-minute bike ride or quick taxi from town. Google Maps will bring you straight to the door.

We accept both cash (colones and USD) and cards. No stress either way.

Your table is open, the rice is on, and the jungle breeze isn't going anywhere.
